Whitney Legge is a documentary filmmaker and cinematographer based in San Francisco. Her work explores themes of family, identity, and social and environmental issues, with a focus on the voices and experiences of women and girls.

Her 2018 film One Thing in Nothing received the President’s Award at Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, won Best Documentary Short at the Deep Focus Film Festival, and was published by The Atlantic. Her films have screened at Visions du Réel (Works-in-Progress), DocLands, SF DocFest, Full Frame, the United Nations, and Global Voices USNC-UN Women Film Festival.

As a cinematographer, her work has screened at SXSW, SFFILM, Camden International Film Festival, Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, and the Annapolis Film Festival, where the film received the Shorts Challenge Award for Cinematography. Her cinematography has also aired on PBS’s Independent Lens, and she was awarded Best Cinematographer at the Oakland Short Film Festival for her short Cycles.

She has presented her work through TEDx Cape Elizabeth, the California Film Institute Education Program, and DocLands Education. Whitney is currently is currently a 2025 BAVC MediaMaker Connect Resident and serves as the Video and Digital Content Producer at Stanford Graduate School of Business, where she produces short documentary films that highlight human connection and social impact.

She holds an MFA in Documentary Film from Stanford University and a BA in Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute, where she received the John Collier Humanitarian Award.
